Here is my short report on my 2-day trip to Bukit Tinggi for my department retreat on 23-24 August 1999.

Day 1

We (the three of us, being Ju (Princess Leia), Rozy, and I) decided to meet up at TNB at 7am and have a quick brekkie before taking off in my Alfa.
I arrived first, and thought I had better start off with my roticanai, as waiting for the other two would be crazy. Of course, Rozy came 15 minutes later and Ju only arrived at 7.30am.
Finally, we went, and due to Rozy's underestimation of Ju's hopeless sense of navigation and my sense of hopeless direction, we missed the exit to Kuantan and drove ahead towards Kepong. A distant u-turn got us back on track...
Bukit Tinggi is only an hour's journey, and although the road uphill is windy, it is not so steep. On arrival, we were greeted with a scenic view of the beautiful surroundings and the resort is nice and cosy.
We each got a T-shirt courtesy of the organising committee, and then headed to our rooms; my room was pretty good, with an excellent view of the outdoors overlooking the swimming pool.
The workshop agenda began soon after, with the usual opening speeches by our head of department, and then presentations by each section head. I had the role of video cameraman, so I went about the hall recording bits and pieces of everyone. Having a camera gives you the passport to move around freely, which is much better than having to sit and listen to all those boring talks.
We broke for lunch, buffet-style, which was ok. After lunch, we were split into groups and participated in the breakout sessions, where I was the facilitator of my group, which was called "Foxpro." Thankfully, Ju and Rozy were not in my group, so no arguments arose, and things ran smoothly.... (hee, hee)
By 5pm, the committee got us to compete in a friendly game of bowling (yes, this resort has a bowling alley, plus a golf course.) Foxpro came third. Not bad.
Ju, Rozy and I then sneaked out and explored the hills in my car. We got to the peak where there is this Japanese Tea Garden, a lovely and exotic Eastern-styled landscape, with streams containing gold fish, and a house where they you can partake in their tea ceremony. The guard let us in free without having to pay the RM35 fee only becoz Ju was with us. She is very useful in these instances....
When we got back, it was near dinner time, which was barbecue-style and we played team charades. Also held was a lucky draw where Rozy won a nights stay at the resort!
We then joined a few others for a session of karaoke, but because the room was small and everyone crammed in, plus Ju was monopolising the microphone, we decided to leave early, thinking of going for a night dip in the swimming pool. Unfortunately, it was raining, so we just sat and chatted while watching TV. By the time I slept, it was around 2am.

Day 2

Well, after breakfast, there were more presentations and group discussions. I quickly learnt to delegate my responsibilities as a facilitator to my team members, and dashed off doing my video shoots of the other groups.
At the days end, the committee requested me to give a speech of the facilitator's observations on the participation and behaviors of team members. That went quite well, I think, except for Rozy's sniggering and Ju's monkey faces from the back of the room.
Finally, just before everyone went home, we got together for a group photograph. The rest went back on the bus, whereas the three of us sneaked back into the karaoke room and blasted an hour's worth of singing.
It rained on our journey back, and I had to send each of my passengers to their home. Rozy learned her lesson, so she sat in front making sure that the correct directions were given, while Ju slept behind.
All in all, we had an enjoyable time, and a needed break from the hectic schedule of work.
